Professor Anthony O’Sullivan

Professor Anthony O’Sullivan is Professor of Medicine at UNSW Medicine, Sydney. For the past 9 years, he has been the Program Authority (Head), head of curriculum, student affairs, and assessment, for the UNSW Medicine program. His educational research interests are the assessment of medical students, and the teaching and assessment of professionalism. He has a particular interest in portfolio examination and how it can help students’ develop reflective practice.

His biomedical research interests are the hormonal regulation of body composition and energy metabolism especially in pregnancy. Professor O’Sullivan has published widely in high-ranking journals in endocrinology and metabolism, as well as medical education journals.

Professor O’Sullivan is Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at St George Hospital and Sutherland Hospitals, Sydney, Australia.

Dr Partha Sundaram is a Sydney based consultant renal physician who strongly believes in building relationships with patients to enable them to navigate the complex nature of kidney disease and to help them improve their quality of life. He values the importance of providing information that patients need to help make informed decisions regarding their health care. He appreciates collaboration with other members of the respective health care teams.

He has experience in the management of hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, glomerulonephritis, kidney stone evaluations, kidney failure including acute and chronic kidney disease, dialysis and provision of care after kidney transplantation. He is involved in supervision and training of advanced trainees in the performance of renal biopsies. His passion is in teaching and improving education of trainees.

He works as a staff specialist nephrologist at the St George and the Sutherland hospitals. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is affiliated with the ANZ Society of Nephrology, The Transplantation Society, AMA, and American Society of Nephrology.

Dr Michael Reyes is a Sydney based Consultant Endocrinologist with clinical expertise in managing diabetes, pregnancy-related endocrine disorders, metabolic syndrome and obesity, thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disorders as well as polycystic ovarian syndrome. His particular areas of interest are type 1 diabetes, insulin pump use, osteoporosis and bone metabolism disorders, pituitary disorders, and steroid-induced as well as pre- and post-transplant endocrinopathies.

Dr Reyes helped establish the first Endocrine Transplant Clinic at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and was involved in creating protocols for screening diabetes and osteoporosis in heart and lung transplant patients. He is part of the Pre-gestational and Gestational Diabetes Clinics at St George Hospital and runs the Transition and Young Adult Diabetes Service (TrYADS), bridging the care of late adolescents and young adults with diabetes.

Michael is a staff specialist at St George Hospital and a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. He regularly attends national and international meetings and is an active member of the Endocrine Society of Australia, Australian Diabetes Society, Australia and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society, US Endocrine Society and Australian Medical Association.

Dr Thaw Htet is a consultant endocrinologist who is committed to providing excellent quality patient care. She underwent endocrinology training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. She holds a Master of Science in Diabetes and Endocrinology from the Barts and London, Queen Mary University of London. She is currently undertaking a PhD project at Garvan Institute of Medical Research through the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Her PhD project is a study of personalised management of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Her research has encompassed gestational diabetes, type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome and bone disorders. Her research has been presaented in international and national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Thaw Htet holds a conjoint associate lecturer position at UNSW and enjoys teaching medical students and junior doctors at St Vincent’s Hospital. She is a member of early career committee at Endocrine society Australia and is involved in developing strategies to promote career opportunities and development for endocrine trainees and young endocrinologists. She is a member of European Society of Endocrine (ESE) Endocrine Society Australia (ESA), Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), Australia and New Zealand Bone Mineral Society (ANZBMS) and Australian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS).

She accepts referrals from all aspects of endocrinology and has a special interest in weight loss management, reproductive endocrinology, different types of diabetes and bone disorders.

Dr Shejil Kumar is a Consultant Endocrinologist with expertise in managing osteoporosis, bone health and thyroid disorders. He completed his specialist training at St George Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and Westmead Hospital. He is currently undertaking his PhD at The Kolling Institute, University of Sydney (USyd). His PhD project is a clinical trial combining exercise plus medication for better bone and muscle health in postmenopausal women over 50 years. He has extensive research experience in diabetes, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer and endocrine-related genetics.

Dr Kumar holds a Clinical Associate Lecturer position at USyd. He is a member of early career committees for both the Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA) and Australian & New Zealand Bone & Mineral Society (ANZBMS). He is passionate about promoting career and professional development amongst training doctors and researchers and is founder and host of a medical podcast "Hormone Hotseat".

Dr Kumar accepts referrals from all aspects of endocrinology medicine and has special interests in bone health, osteoporosis and thyroid disorders.
